SeaWorld San Diego to honor military during Veterans Day weekend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — SeaWorld San Diego will honor active-duty military service members, veterans and their families during its annual Veterans Day event ahead of the federal holiday on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The Red, White and Blue Salute, presented by Navy Federal Credit Union, starts Saturday, Nov. 8 and lasts until Monday, Nov. 10 and is included with park admission.

Veterans, active-duty service members and up to three guests will receive complimentary single-day admission tickets through the park’s Waves of Honor program.

The park will open each day of Veterans Day weekend with a flag ceremony and the national anthem at the Explorer’s Reef. A salute to military service members and veterans will also take place before the Orca Encounter, where heroes will be recognized for their service.

American flags will be placed in SeaWorld’s Field of Honor to represent local veterans, and visitors will also be able to dedicate a flag to their personal military heroes.

This year, there will also be community pop-up activations hosted by local nonprofits that provide resources for veterans and their families.

To continue its recognition of the sacrifices made by military heroes, SeaWorld will conclude each night of Veterans Day weekend with a patriotic fireworks show about 10 minutes prior to the park’s closure.
