SF driver crashed into Upper Haight scooter riders, hit car while fleeing scene: police

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A 21-year-old faces several charges for an Upper Haight hit-and-run crash where they allegedly drove into two people riding a scooter then struck a parked car, said the San Francisco Police Department.

SFPD said officers responded to the Oct. 3 incident at 9:50 p.m. at the intersection of Haight and Lyon Streets.

Police said the crash victims were taken to a nearby hospital with one suffering critical injuries and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle collided into a scooter then collided into an unoccupied parked vehicle while attempting to flee from the scene,” said San Francisco PD in a news release. “The suspect vehicle was located abandoned near the area of Page Streets and Central Ave.”

Police said its Traffic Collision Investigation soon took over the investigation and eventually identified Fatima Zahra Kabira Ghaleb, of San Francisco, as the main suspect. Ghaleb was taken to San Francisco County Jail where they await charges, including felony hit and run with injury.

Despite an arrest in the case, this remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact SFPD at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with “SFPD.” Anonymous tips are welcome.
