Shaker and Columbia finish regular season unbeaten; play to 1-1 draw

EAST GREENBUSH, NY (NEWS10) — Columbia High School played host to a premier Suburban Council boys soccer matchup on Thursday night. Shaker, ranked fourth in the state in Class AAA, visited the Blue Devils, the top-ranked state in Class AA, in a battle of unbeatens in each team’s regular season finale.

Columbia applied the pressure early and often, breaking through on a Matthew Lurie goal in the first half. The Blue Devils took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Shaker answered early in the second half, as Harrison Yu tallied the equalizer. The Blue Devils continued to pressure Shaker all night long, but goalie Alex Cross made a number of pivotal saves down the stretch.

Both teams ended the regular season unbeaten, playing to a 1-1 draw. Columbia enters sectional play with a record of 13-0-2, while Shaker ends their regular season 12-0-3.
