Cancer treatment improving at Saint Peter’s Health Partners

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Saint Peter’s Health Partners announced its partnership with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center on Tuesday morning. Some of the new resources include second opinions and access to tumor boards, where doctors discuss the latest cases.

“Access to clinical trials is a high priority for us,” said Sai Yendamuri, MD, of Roswell Park “We have one of the best cellular therapy programs in the world today and so we’re hoping to transfer that expertise or leverage that expertise to help patients in this area.”

5% of the U.S. population is living with cancer, either as a survivor or in treatment, according to Steven Hanks, MD, of Trinity Health New York and Saint Peter’s. And there are an estimated 2 million new cancer diagnoses every year. “We realize that here in the Capital District, we do not have easy access to a comprehensive cancer center. There are only 57 of these in the country.”

This service line of medical professionals now stretches all the way from Jamestown through Buffalo, Syracuse, Watertown and Albany. The partnership with Saint Peter’s was two years in the making and has already been in effect for about three months.
