OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — A shooting Thursday afternoon on Highway 24 near Caldecott Tunnel is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol Oakland area office.
CHP said the shooting happened at 3:45 p.m. west of Old Tunnel Road in Oakland.
CHP confirmed to KRON4 that two vehicles were struck by gunfire after initially reporting that the incident “appeared to be two vehicles shooting at each other.”
CHP said a suspect was detained on Highway 24 near Interstate 680 near Walnut Creek. There are no reports of any injuries.
Commuters are advised that there will be some delays on eastbound Highway 24, just west of Highway 13 in Oakland. All lanes have since reopened.
The motive and circumstances behind the shooting are not yet known.
