NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Emergency crews responded to a residential fire in Niskayuna on Thursday. The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. at a home on Peters Lane.
Niskayuna Fire District 1 (NFD1) dispatch made contact with the property owner and determined they were away from the home at the time. Firefighters arriving to the scene reported hearing the sound of dogs barking in the house and found flames coming from a bedroom on the second floor.
Responders were able to bring the fire under control within five minutes and had it fully extinguished around 4:45 p.m. Firefighters located two uninjured dogs that were safely removed and placed into the care of a neighbor until the homeowner’s return.
Niskayuna Fire District 2, the Schenectady and Stanford Heights Fire Departments, and Niskayuna Police assisted NFD1 with the operation. Niskayuna Fire Chief James Vena stated that the fire appears to have been accidental, but the definitive cause of the incident remains under review by Schenectady County Fire Investigators.
