Driver killed after deer smashes through windshield

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A driver from Rochester was killed in a crash Tuesday evening involving a deer on Route 19 in Genesee County.

Deputies said the driver of a Honda CR-V struck a deer that entered the roadway. The deer went airborne and smashed through the windshield of a car driven by 80-year-old Michael Vaccaro. Vacarro’s car left the west shoulder and came to rest in a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, Vacarro suffered fatal injuries when the deer crashed into the windshield. The other occupants in the car were uninjured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
