ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police announced that Lewis Thomas of Coxsackie was arraigned on Thursday afternoon after a fatal wrong-way crash last weekend in Albany. Thomas, 44, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and second-degree assault.
Thomas is accused of causing a head-on crash on I-787 near Exit 2 by reportedly heading south in a northbound lane. The driver of the car traveling north, later identified as 38-year-old Eric Hurley of Albany, was declared dead at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. on October 12.
Thomas was arraigned bedside on October 16 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. He will be held without bail at the Albany County Jail after being medically cleared by the hospital.
